Day 1 - Monday, Sept 3 - Home to Streetsboro, OH

Starting mileage:  0 Starting time: 10:00 am
Ending mileage: 480 Ending time: 6:30 pm
Travel mileage:  480 Travel time: 8:30 hours

It seems like we shouldn't need much for the trip but the car is still fairly full.

It was warm and sticky as we were packing. By the time we got to PA, it was in the 90s and stayed very hot most of the day.

The terrain all the way across PA was heavily forested and a fair amount of winding along rivers and mountains.  There isn't much civilization along I-80 which is fine with us.

When we entered Ohio, we encountered intense thunder and lightening storms with the heaviest rain we've encountered while driving. At one point there was hail but fortunately it wasn't large and didn't last long. When the storm hit, the temperature dropped by 20 degrees in a few minutes.

Fortunately, when got to the Comfort Suites in Streetsboro, it wasn't raining and stayed dry until after dinner.

We are enjoying our new 2018 Subaru Forester which has modern (for us) features like adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, blind-spot detection and rear camera. The one we enjoy the most is the adaptive cruise control which matches the speed to follow the car ahead at a safe distance. It even works in stop and go traffic, coming to a complete stop and then starting up again. The only problem is at higher speeds on multi-lane highways, a safe distance means that cars pull around us on the right and then pull in front even though we are matching the vehicle ahead of us.
